Maarten van der Weijden is making a new elfstedentocht swim attempt.
Former Olympic champion and open water swimmer Maarten van der Weijden is the first human who ever attempted to swim the 200-kilometre-long route through the Elevent Cities. The swimmer also made an attempt last year, but then had to stop the journey of 195 kilometers after 163 kilometers, because his body could no longer cope. He has been swimming non-stop and having been in the water for 55 hours at that time.
It seems that Van Der Weijden will make it to the finish this year. He is expected around 7.30 pm for the finish in Leeuwarden. The proceeds of the trip will go to cancer research. Van Der Weijden began suffering from a salt imbalance at that pont and was encouraged by a doctor and his support team to leave the water.
If you buy this A4 print, 3/4 of your money will go to the cancer research fund!
